Too many freelance business owners would rather do most anything than market their business. However, if you don’t make the time to do it, you won’t be able to stay in business.

The key is to create a structured plan like we discussed in the “Daily/Monthly Marketing Plan” and to implement it.

How you schedule it is up to you.

Ilise Benun of Marketing Mentor talks about having a “Marketing Monday” and knocking it out over the course of the day.

While I like the idea of a long stretch of unbroken time to focus on marketing tasks, I’ve found over the years that I’m not as focused as I’d like if I go this route. Instead, I prefer to break it up over the week. You can try both approaches and see what works for you.

Most days, I start out with writing tasks and spend an hour or so marketing in the afternoon. Other days, I spend a couple of hours tracking down interesting looking companies and sending out outreach emails.

It’s a good break for when my “writing” brain is feeling mushy.
