It doesn’t matter who you are…
It doesn’t matter what your background is…
Or how much education, or experience, or fill-in-your-noun-of-choice-here that you have.
Even if by most people’s standards you’re “crushing it,” you’re still probably suffering from something that plagues virtually everyone on the planet.
Diagnosis: Head Trash
To be alive is to have head trash.
The question is how much it affects you.
Now, to be sure we’re on the same page, let’s answer… What is head trash?
It’s basically the bundle of negative thoughts, feelings, beliefs, fears, and so forth that prevents you from acting freely.
For example, suppose you’re at AWAI’s Bootcamp and Job Fair, and there’s a prospect at Job Fair you’d love to write for. They’re asking for Spec Assignments, but you’re too afraid to turn anything in and you let the opportunity pass you by. That’s head trash.
Or suppose a new prospect has been referred to you. They want an estimate for what would be your biggest writing project to date. Worried about doing something so big for someone brand-new, you come up with a reason not to do it.
Again, that’s head trash.
And while it can be detrimental in a number of aspects of your life, it can be especially damaging to your writing career.
The good news is, there are things you can do to keep your head trash from having this effect on you.
